TikTok Shop Order Volume Limit (OVL): Out-of-Stock Fix
Short answer: if every product suddenly shows out of stock while your back-end inventory is still positive, check TikTok Shop's Order Volume Limit (OVL) before changing the SKU quantity. OVL is a daily cap on the orders a shop can receive. When the cap is reached, TikTok says products can appear out of stock to buyers and the shop cannot accept more orders until the limit resets the next day. OVL can come from the new-shop probation program, a policy or performance issue, or a temporary security review, so the right fix depends on what Seller Center shows for your shop.
This guide is for US TikTok Shop sellers and was checked against TikTok's current US OVL and probation guidance on August 18, 2026. Platform labels, limits and eligibility can vary by market and account. Treat the OVL shown in your own Seller Center as the final value.
OVL vs a real inventory stockout
The same buyer-facing message can come from different problems. Diagnose the symptom before you edit inventory:
| What you see | Most likely first question | First check |
|---|---|---|
| Every product turns out of stock after a burst of orders | Did the shop consume its daily order cap? | Seller Center Orders → Manage Orders and the Order Volume Tracker |
| OVL is visible and remaining orders are zero | Has the daily limit been reached? | Check the reset timing and pace the next promotion around the available capacity |
| OVL is much lower than expected, or shows 1–10 | Is the shop in probation, under a special check, or affected by a violation? | Probation Program page, Shop Health → Violation Records and any policy notice |
| One SKU is out of stock but the rest of the shop is available | Is this a product-level inventory or listing problem? | SKU quantity, warehouse sync, product status and variant availability |
| OVL is zero or new orders are suspended | Is there an enforcement or account restriction? | The violation ticket, restriction notice and the available appeal path |
| The listing was never available, even with no sales | Is this a catalog, qualification or product-status issue? | Product status, category requirements, warehouse settings and listing diagnostics |
The important distinction is shop capacity versus SKU inventory. Raising a product quantity cannot remove a shop-level OVL. Conversely, a shop can have OVL capacity remaining while one product is genuinely unavailable.
If your shop is connected to Shopify
Shopify inventory and TikTok Shop availability are related but not identical. If TikTok Shop shows zero inventory while Shopify has stock, TikTok's current Shopify FAQ points first to incomplete product mapping and inventory-sync settings. Check that the product and every variant are mapped to the intended TikTok listing, confirm inventory sync is enabled in the TikTok app, and run the documented re-sync path before treating the message as an OVL.
This creates a useful split:
| Shopify/TikTok symptom | What to investigate first |
|---|---|
| All products become unavailable after the daily order count is consumed | Shop-level OVL and the reset window |
| One mapped product shows zero stock on TikTok | Product mapping, variant availability and inventory sync |
| Product is live but cannot be purchased after a stock change | TikTok warehouse availability and order-state timing |
Use TikTok's Shopify inventory-sync FAQ for the current integration steps. Do not disable inventory synchronization or enable overselling just to hide an OVL; those are separate inventory decisions with fulfillment risk.
What Order Volume Limit means
TikTok defines OVL as the maximum number of orders a shop can receive in one day. The limit is not the same as your inventory count, product-listing limit, GMV or advertising budget.
When the shop reaches its OVL:
- TikTok can show the products as out of stock to customers.
- The shop cannot receive additional orders until the limit resets.
- The daily tracker shows the orders received and the remaining capacity.
- The next action is to identify why the limit exists, not to create duplicate listings or keep sending paid traffic into a closed capacity window.
TikTok's official OVL guidance says the limit can be applied during the Shop Probation Program or because of shop violations. If a violation produces a lower limit than the probation limit, the lower limit applies. That means two new shops can see different OVLs even when their inventory and product counts look similar.
Current probation tiers
TikTok's US Shop Probation guidance describes the following maximum probation tiers:
| Probation status | Orders per day | Product listings | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beginner | Up to 50 | Up to 100 | First ramp-up stage; complete the displayed tasks and establish reliable operations |
| Standard | Up to 100 | Up to 200 | Higher capacity after the shop meets the platform's progression requirements |
| Premium | Up to 200 | Up to 1,000 | Higher probation capacity, still subject to account-specific checks |
| Pro | No probation-program order cap | — | The shop has graduated from probation; other account or enforcement limits can still apply |
These are tier ceilings, not a promise that every shop receives the maximum. TikTok notes that seller order limits can be affected by platform and seller security checks. Some probation sellers may also see a dynamic OVL between 1 and 10 rather than a fixed value; this does not apply to Beginner tier and above under the current policy update. Check the number in your own Probation page or Manage Orders banner.
Probation is a ramp-up program, not automatically a penalty. A violation-based OVL is a different situation: it can be part of enforcement and should be diagnosed from the Shop Health notice.
How to check your current OVL
Use the account-specific surfaces in this order:
1. Check the Probation Program page
Open the Seller Center homepage and enter the Probation Program page. TikTok says this page shows your current status, order volume and the tasks associated with increasing the limit.
2. Check the Order Volume Tracker
The tracker shows the daily orders received and the shop's OVL. For example, if it shows 40 orders received and an OVL of 50, the shop has 10 orders of capacity left for that daily window. This is an illustrative reading of the tracker, not a guarantee that every account uses the same display.
3. Check Manage Orders
Open Orders → Manage Orders and look for the OVL banner or order-limit information. This is the fastest place to confirm that the out-of-stock message is a shop capacity issue rather than a SKU quantity issue.
4. Check Shop Health and notices
If the limit is unexpectedly low, open Shop Health → Violation Records and read the ticket. TikTok says a violation-driven OVL should appear with the relevant notice. Save the ticket, affected listings or orders, date, policy section and evidence deadline before changing the account.
How to increase or remove an OVL
There is no universal button that raises the limit immediately. The official operating direction is to complete probation tasks when applicable and build a reliable performance and compliance record.
| Operating area | What to do | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Shop information | Keep registration, warehouse, bank and account information valid and consistent | Mismatched or unreliable information can create review friction |
| Listing quality | Use clear product titles, accurate images, correct variants and complete product details | The buyer should receive what the listing promises |
| Fulfillment | Ship on time and upload valid tracking information | Late or unverifiable fulfillment increases operational risk |
| Customer support | Reply quickly with a useful answer, not an empty acknowledgement | Clear support reduces unresolved order and after-sales problems |
| Inventory control | Sync inventory before promotions and pause traffic when capacity is nearly consumed | Prevents paid demand from creating cancellations or overselling |
| Cancellation and returns | Investigate seller-fault cancellations and avoid preventable returns | Repeated order problems can affect account health and future capacity |
| Policy compliance | Check prohibited or restricted status and keep evidence for regulated products | A policy issue can create a lower OVL or other enforcement |
| Change management | Avoid making frequent, unexplained price or listing changes during a review | A stable change log makes diagnosis and appeals easier |

A capacity-planning example
Suppose a shop has an OVL of 50 orders per day. The tracker shows 40 orders received, so the visible remaining capacity is 10 orders. The operator plans a creator post that historically creates more than 10 same-day orders.
The safe decision is not “increase ad spend and hope the inventory catches up.” It is to:
- confirm the 10-order remaining capacity and reset timing;
- pace or delay the promotion if the expected demand is larger than the remaining capacity;
- keep the product and warehouse quantity accurate;
- monitor cancellations, fulfillment and customer messages while the promotion runs; and
- record the result before the next promotion.
This example is EshopPick analysis. It does not predict the shop's actual conversion rate, OVL reset time beyond TikTok's stated daily reset, or future limit increase.
What not to do when a shop shows out of stock
- Do not assume adding more inventory removes a shop-level OVL.
- Do not keep buying traffic after the remaining daily capacity is nearly zero.
- Do not create duplicate listings to bypass a capacity or policy control.
- Do not change many prices, variants and warehouse settings at once; it makes the root cause harder to identify.
- Do not submit altered, borrowed or inconsistent documents during an appeal.
- Do not treat an OVL notice as proof that the product itself is prohibited; check the product policy separately.
If the product is in a regulated or restricted category, check TikTok Shop prohibited and restricted products before sourcing or relisting.
OVL troubleshooting workflow
Use this five-minute sequence whenever a live product unexpectedly becomes unavailable:
| Step | Question | Action |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Is the problem shop-wide? | Compare several products and check the OVL banner |
| 2 | Is remaining capacity zero? | Confirm the daily reset window and stop sending avoidable demand |
| 3 | Is the OVL lower than the expected probation tier? | Check Probation, Shop Health and recent notices |
| 4 | Is one product affected while capacity remains? | Audit SKU stock, variants, warehouse sync and listing status |
| 5 | Is there a violation ticket? | Follow the correction or appeal path and attach order-level evidence |
The workflow separates a capacity problem, a listing or inventory problem and a policy problem. Those require different owners and different evidence.
Frequently asked questions
Why does TikTok Shop say out of stock when I still have inventory?
You may have reached the shop's Order Volume Limit. Check the Order Volume Tracker and Manage Orders banner. If the OVL has not been reached, investigate SKU quantity, variant availability, warehouse sync and product status instead.
Does OVL reset every day?
TikTok's OVL guidance says that after the daily order limit is reached, the shop cannot receive additional orders until the limit resets the next day. The exact time and account display should be confirmed in Seller Center.
Where can I find my OVL?
Check the Probation Program page, the Order Volume Tracker and the Orders → Manage Orders banner. If the limit appears to be violation-based, check Shop Health → Violation Records.
Why is my OVL less than 50?
Your shop may be in a probation state with an account-specific limit, a dynamic 1–10 limit, a security check or a violation-based restriction. Read the current notice rather than assuming every new shop has the same number.
How do I increase my TikTok Shop order limit?
Complete the probation tasks shown for your account and maintain accurate listings, on-time shipping, valid tracking, responsive support, low preventable cancellations and strong policy compliance. TikTok reviews performance over time; there is no universal instant increase.
Is probation the same as a punishment?
No. TikTok describes probation as a temporary ramp-up program for new shops. A lower OVL caused by a shop violation or enforcement notice is a separate issue and should be handled through the relevant correction or appeal process.
Can I appeal an OVL?
If the OVL is tied to a violation, inspect the violation ticket and use the appeal path shown in Seller Center. Keep the order, tracking, customer-message, inventory and policy evidence that supports your explanation. If the limit is ordinary probation capacity, complete the displayed probation tasks instead of filing an enforcement appeal.
Does OVL affect creators or affiliate traffic?
The seller-side OVL controls the shop's ability to receive orders. If a shop is deactivated or OVL reaches zero, TikTok's enforcement guidance says associated creator accounts can also lose e-commerce permissions. Do not promise that changing creator traffic can remove the seller-side limit.
