The affiliate program is the most realistic place for a beginner to start earning on TikTok: no inventory, no money fronted, you only earn commission after a sale. But most guides online miss the one thing that matters most — the follower tiers and the Pilot Program. Hitting 1,000 followers lets you in; it does not instantly give you full access. This guide gets the rules right, then tells you what actually decides your income.

Entry requirements (current as of 2026)

You must meet all of these to apply:

  • 1,000+ followers
  • Account at least 30 days old
  • 18+
  • Account in good standing (no serious violations)
  • Pass ID / identity verification (mandatory as of 2026)
  • Based in the US or UK

How to apply: In the TikTok app, go to Creator Tools / TikTok Shop, then Affiliate, and submit your application. Approval takes about 3-7 business days — not instant (the guides saying 'approved immediately' are wrong).

The most important — and most misreported — part: follower tiers

This is the heart of the guide. After you join at 1,000 followers, you can't immediately post unlimited shoppable videos. You first enter the Affiliate Creator Pilot Program.

StageFollowersAccess
Pilot1,000-5,000Capped at about 3 shoppable videos/day and 3 shoppable LIVEs/week
Graduated5,000+ or early graduationCaps lifted, full Product Marketplace access (US)

How to graduate early (under 5,000 followers)? Meet all of these:

  1. Pass a policy quiz;
  2. Creator Health Rating (CHR) of 176+;
  3. Plus one of: 6+ shoppable videos (8+ seconds each) / 1+ livestream (5+ minutes) / 10+ orders generated.

Hit any graduation route and the caps on shoppable videos and LIVEs are lifted.

New for 2026: the Creator Health Rating (CHR)

As of January 2026, the CHR replaced the old Violation Points system.

  • Everyone started at 200 points.
  • 176+ unlocks early graduation.
  • 'Green' / top status is needed to qualify for free samples and brand-exclusive programs.

In short: don't rack up violations. Keep your CHR high and the resources available to you change completely.

How much is the commission, really?

Sellers set the rate, anywhere from 1% to 80% — but don't let 80% fool you; that's rare. The US average is around 13%.

  • Open / Standard collab: usually 5%-15%.
  • Targeted (invite-only): 18%-50%.

Roughly by category:

CategoryTypical commission
Beauty / wellness8%-22%
Home5%-10%
Electronics2%-5%
Fashion5%-8%

No inventory required — everything you promote is in-stock product listed by sellers in the affiliate marketplace.

How commission is calculated and when you get paid

  • Formula: commission = (revenue - refunds) x rate.
  • Timing: settled about 15 days after the order is DELIVERED — note that's after delivery, not after the sale. For new or low-rated sellers it can stretch to about 31 days.
  • Refund clawback: a full refund claws the commission back to $0.
  • 30-day rate lock-in: under Open collab, if a seller lowers a rate, your existing rate is protected for 30 days.

How much can you earn? (ranges — read the low end first)

Honestly: most people earn at the low end early on, some make $0, and a few break out:

StageMonthly range
Beginner, first 60-90 days$100-$500 (some $0, a few cross $2K)
Micro creator (10K-100K)$500-$5,000
Top affiliates$5K-$50K per brand

Don't anchor on the top tier. A beginner clearing a few hundred a month consistently has already proven the model.

Joining is easy — your income is decided by which products you pick

This is the core point: the entry bar only filters out people who aren't serious; what actually separates earners is product selection. Squeeze into a hit product already flogged by tens of thousands of creators and your small account just rides along; pick a product with real demand and few promoters and your video has a real shot at views and orders.

EshopPick exists to solve the 'what to pick' problem:

  • The Opportunity Score = demand / affiliate-crowding x freshness. It surfaces products with high demand but few affiliates, so a small account isn't competing with thousands of creators on the same item.
  • The Category Opportunity Radar shows which category has the biggest supply-demand gap right now.
  • Free weekly real US sales data — actual orders, not estimates.

2026 policy reminders

  • Mandatory age + ID verification.
  • Products you promote must have no IP violations and a low negative-review rate, or it hurts your CHR and your ability to keep promoting.

Frequently asked questions

How many followers do you need for the affiliate program? The baseline is 1,000 followers. But 1,000-5,000 puts you in the Pilot Program, capped at about 3 shoppable videos/day and 3 shoppable LIVEs/week; that lifts at 5,000 followers or via early graduation.

Can you do it under 1,000 followers? You can't apply directly. Build content to 1,000 followers first — see how to start affiliate with no followers.

How much commission do affiliates get? Sellers set 1%-80%, with a US average around 13%. Open collab is 5%-15%, Targeted is 18%-50%. 80% is rare — don't treat it as normal.

When do affiliates get paid? Commission settles about 15 days after the order is delivered (not after the sale). For new or low-rated sellers it can stretch to about 31 days.

Do you need to buy the product? No. You promote in-stock product listed by sellers in the marketplace — zero inventory.

What happens to commission on a return? A full refund claws back the matching commission to $0. That's why promoting low-return-rate products matters.

What are realistic first-month earnings? Most beginners land between $100 and $500 in the first 60-90 days; some make $0 and a few break $2,000. Earnings depend far more on product selection than on follower count.

What are the best products for affiliate in 2026? There's no single answer, but the direction is clear: find high-demand, low-crowding blue-ocean products. Screening with the EshopPick Opportunity Score and Category Radar beats chasing the same viral hits everyone else is.

Joining is just step one — product selection decides what you earn. Open the EshopPick Category Opportunity Radar to find high-demand, low-affiliate categories where even a small account can land orders.
