The UK is one of TikTok Shop's more mature markets, but its entry requirements differ meaningfully from the US. The core rule is simple: you must be a genuine UK-based business entity. Here is the 2026 UK setup in the order you should actually execute it.

Eligibility: a local entity is non-negotiable

To open as a seller in the UK you need:

  • A UK business entity registered with Companies House
  • A UK business bank account
  • A physical UK business address
  • A valid ID for the primary person or director
  • Products that comply with UK trading standards and TikTok's restricted-products policy

This is where cross-border sellers get stuck. Without a UK company, a UK business bank account, and a UK address, you generally cannot start as a local seller. If you are still deciding between a local shop, a cross-border shop, or ACCU, read local vs cross-border vs ACCU first.

Verification document checklist

Register at seller-uk.tiktok.com using a business email, not a personal TikTok account. The documents commonly required for verification include:

DocumentNotes
Certificate of incorporationProof of the registered entity
Director IDValid ID for the primary person
Proof of business addressConfirms the UK physical address
Bank statementsConfirms the UK business account

Verification typically takes about 3 to 5 business days. Mismatched details, an address that does not line up, or expired ID are the most frequent rejection causes. Aligning your documents before you apply saves rounds of resubmission (common reasons applications are rejected).

One more point worth stressing: there is no follower requirement to sell as a seller. You do not need to build a large account first, which is the opposite of what many people assume.

Fee structure: rising in 2026

UK and EU commissions have been climbing in recent years, so budget at the high end:

  • Platform transaction fee: up to about 9% per transaction
  • If you use affiliates (creators): add roughly 10% to 25% commission

That means a product sold through affiliate promotion can lose around a third of its sale price to platform fee plus commission. You must price that in up front, or you will build a shop with orders but no profit.

Fulfillment: three options, all with SLAs

UK shops have three main fulfillment paths:

  1. Your own logistics — you ship yourself
  2. TikTok partnered carriers — platform-integrated shipping
  3. Fulfilled by TikTok (FBT) — hand it to the platform's warehousing

If you self-fulfill, you must meet the platform SLA, typically dispatch within about 2 business days. Late dispatch converts directly into violations and throttled reach, just as strictly as in the US market.

Key differences from the US market

US and UK setups are not identical. Before expanding across markets, compare against the full US start guide and treat entity, tax, and fulfillment requirements separately.

A common route is entering the UK cross-border from overseas. In that case, tariff and landed-cost shifts directly determine whether your pricing even works. Understand de minimis and tariff impact on cross-border before you ship, not after you discover tax has eaten your margin.

A recommended execution order

  1. Register the UK entity and open the business bank account
  2. Assemble the four document types and check every detail for consistency
  3. Submit at seller-uk.tiktok.com with a business email and wait 3 to 5 business days
  4. Choose a fulfillment method; if self-fulfilling, confirm you can reliably meet the 2-day SLA
  5. Price for the worst case using up to 9% plus 10 to 25% affiliate commission

Frequently asked questions

Can I open a UK local shop without a UK company? Generally no. A UK local seller needs a Companies House entity, a UK business bank account, and a UK business address. Without a local entity you typically must consider a cross-border or ACCU route instead.

How long does verification take? Usually about 3 to 5 business days. It is faster when documents are complete and consistent; mismatched addresses, IDs, or account details can lead to rejection and resubmission.

How many followers do I need to open a shop? There is no follower requirement to sell as a seller. Follower count affects how efficiently you sell via live or creators, not your eligibility to open the shop.

What exactly is the platform fee? Up to about 9% per transaction, with UK and EU commissions still rising. Add roughly 10 to 25% if you layer on affiliates, so reserve for the high end when pricing.
